The R.O.C.K. Club Believes that Every Day Should Be Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is an amazing time to develop an attitude of gratitude, but shouldn’t we always be thankful? When the calendar flips its page to November, our attention always turns to Thanksgiving. Our thoughts are about the turkey, the mashed potatoes, and all of those delicious side dishes. Thoughts also turn toward quality time spent with family and friends. And we should begin to contemplate the true meaning of the holiday, which is thankfulness. But is Thanksgiving the only season where we should be thankful? Here at the R.O.C.K. Club in Radford, VA, we believe that Thanksgiving should last all year long! But how can we foster an “always be thankful” mindset?
Always Be Thankful, No Matter What
In the Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reads, “In every thing give thanks…” But how is that possible? Can somebody really be thankful when they go through rough times? Yes, it is possible! Developing an “always be thankful” mentality first depends on a shift of perspective. We need to begin to concentrate on the things we have, not the things we don’t have. When our thoughts dwell on what we don’t have, we don’t consider the blessings all around us. Did you wake up this morning? Were you able to breathe? That’s something to be thankful for. If you know what to look for, there are reasons to always be thankful, no matter where you are in life.
God Has Done So Much for You
The thought of thanksgiving has become so ubiquitous that we now take the term for granted. But when we think about it, shouldn’t there be a recipient for our gratitude? When we are “thankful,” shouldn’t someone get the thanks? That someone is God. God has done so much for us. He gives us the breath in our lungs. He provides us with the food on our table. It is His creation that we admire every day. We should always be thankful to God for all that He has done for us. The greatest thing that God has ever done for us is to send His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins. It is through Jesus’ sacrifice that we can have eternal life. That’s something to always be thankful for!
